A winter storm is on the way for most of northern and central New Mexico. The core of the storm will slide into the I-25 corridor around 4 AM. It will be snowing in most areas 5,000’ or higher by this point. Albuquerque will have a dusting by sunrise and at least 2” by noon. Expect difficult driving conditions and impassable roads especially in the mountains. Past noon, snow showers will be scattered. The highest mountains will get steady, light snow all the way into Wednesday morning. Wednesday will be sunny, but unusually cold. We’ll have to deal with icy roads after the wet snow refreezes Tuesday night.
Friday brings another Pacific front. This will also be a relatively cold system. It’ll be warmer than tonight’s storm by a few degrees, which is significant. The bulk of the precipitation in Albuquerque will be rain or mix. Saturday morning will bring travel concerns and widespread winter weather.
