Winter storm blasts through New Mexico Tuesday

Weather Video Forecast

TUESDAY: Once east canyon winds relax across the Rio Grande Valley, a band of moderate snow will be allowed to cross east into the ABQ-metro. Accumulation of 1″ – 4″ of snow is possible with higher numbers in and around Rio Rancho and the Foothills. Snow showers will continue to favor the higher terrain or northern NM through the day Tuesday while eastern NM gets a shot later in the day. Afternoon temperatures will be far below seasonal averages with most locales struggling to make freezing in northern and central NM.

WEDNESDAY: Lingering showers will hug the northern high terrain while the majority us see a gradual drying trend. Expect more sunshine and a slow warm up across the state.

THURSDAY/FRIDAY: Our next storm system looks to arrive late Thursday, scooting its way across northern NM. This storm is relatively warmer than the one we have to start the week so precipitation will be more of a rain/snow mix to start. Once again, mountain snow looks to be a good bet with cooler temps to follow into the weekend. Also expect to see an uptick in strong winds.

WEEKEND: Mostly to partly sunny skies will blanket the state with afternoon temperatures cooler Saturday (ABQ: 42°) but warmer Sunday (ABQ: 47°).
