A series of cold front will knock temps down beginning tomorrow and continuing into the weekend. Highs will dip by 10° on Friday as a pacific front moves in. Then a backdoor front will drop temps further on Saturday. As the cooler weekend air moves in a storm will drop into the state increasing the chance of snow.

Northern New Mexico sees snow and wind on Tuesday

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) - Snow is coming down across northern New Mexico and southern Colorado, and roads are becoming snow-covered and icy. The wind is breezy, causing blowing and drifting snow and low visibility. Limit travel today if possible, as roads will continue to get worse through midday.

Snow will stay steady throughout the morning commute, but snow will start to clear from south to north by the afternoon and evening. There will be a chance for scattered rain showers in southern New Mexico this afternoon.

Winter storm moving into New Mexico

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – A storm system dropping into the southwest tonight along with a cold front moving in from the east will combine to spread snow over the northern portion of the state. The highest amounts will fall over the northern mountains where 6"-12" will be possible.

Lesser amounts of 2"-6" will fall over the plains and Continental Divide. Here in Albuquerque, the wind will be too strong for major snow accumulation but light amounts of up to 2" are possible. A little more could fall in Rio Rancho. Snow will taper off late Tuesday. On Wednesday there will be plenty of clouds but less snow as the storm backs further to our west.

Heavy snow and strong winds expected with a winter storm

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) - A winter storm moves into New Mexico Monday night bringing significant snowfall and strong winds.

Most of New Mexico will remain quiet and mild Monday, but a backdoor cold front will make its way across eastern New Mexico through the afternoon. Light snow will start over the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in the afternoon, increasing in intensity through the evening. The cold front will squeeze through the canyons in the central mountain chain bringing strong winds into the Rio Grande Valley. 60 mph wind gusts will be possible in the Albuquerque area late tonight through Tuesday. Snow will increase in coverage and intensity across northern, western, and central New Mexico. The heaviest snowfall will be from late tonight through Tuesday morning. Winds will play a big factor in Albuquerque’s snow chance early Tuesday morning.
