Near record heat and increasing fire danger are ahead for the Memorial Day weekend.
Drier weather has returned to the entire state and this means warming temperatures. Afternoon highs will be flirting with records throughout the weekend. The 90s will then return to the metro while the triple digit heat builds across portions of southern New Mexico in the coming days.
The wind will pick up tomorrow afternoon. The wind combined with these hot temps and dry conditions will elevate the fire danger for parts of the state. So burning is highly discouraged this weekend.
There will be less wind heading into Memorial Day, but the hot and dry weather will continue into next week.
