Near record heat and fire danger are ahead for New Mexico today.
The wind will pick up across New Mexico this afternoon. So between the wind, dry weather and hot temps the fire danger will be high. This means no outdoor burning for most of New Mexico.
The fire danger will remain high through Mother’s Day weekend with only slightly cooler temperatures.
A weak cold front will then move into eastern New Mexico by Tuesday of next week. This front could spark some storms across northeast New Mexico and drop temperatures back to more seasonable highs for parts of eastern New Mexico next week.
