The 2018 spring sports season has come to an end for New Mexico high schools, as on Saturday baseball and softball champions were crowned.
In the Class 6A Baseball Championship La Cueva would dominate Piedra Vista to win their 10th State Championship. This game would be over in 5 innings as the Bears took out PV 14-3. This State Title also marks La Cueva’s 2nd straight.
In the Class 6A Softball State Championship Las Cruces would complete the upset by defeating top seeded La Cueva twice for the State Title. Las Cruces was a 7 seed coming into the tournament.
In the Class 5A Baseball State Championship Farmington would take out reigning state champs, Goddard. The Rockets would make things interesting late, but the Scorpions would prevail to tale the 5A Title with a 5-3 victory.
Artesia would once again take home the 5A State Softball trophy, as the Lady Bulldogs took out Farmington twice to win the title. Artesia lost to Farmington earlier in the trophy and would battle their way through the losers bracket to take another State Title.
In the Class 4A Baseball State Championship game, Hope Christian would take out underdog Bernalillo in a 3-0 victory. This was a big win for the Huskies, especially after losing at the State stage a year ago to Portales in the Championship.
