From morning until night and from one end of the city to the other state baseball and softball was played Thursday. The defending champions of Class 6A baseball, La Cueva, advanced to the state semi finals with a 4-1 victory over the Cleveland Storm.
La Cueva, the top seed will play Carlsbad in the semi finals at 6 p.m. Friday at Isotopes Park. Carlsbad buried Clovis under a barrage of hits to win 15-1.
On the other side of the 6A bracket, the Rio Rancho Rams ended the season of number two seed Centennial. The Rams beat the Hawks 4-1. The Rams will face the Piedra Vista Panthers in the semi finals. Piedra Vista slipped past Volcano Vista 6-4.
The Rams and Panthers will meet at Isotopes Park at 3 p.m. Friday. In Class 6A softball, the top seeded Volcano Vista Hawks beat Cleveland 6-4 Thursday to advance to an early morning date with Piedra Vista at 8:30 a.m..
The two seed Rio Rancho suffered an upset 9-4 loss to Las Cruces. The Rams would bounce back before the end of the day, beating Carlsbad 7-5,
