Chris Jans and his New Mexico State Aggies men’s basketball team has yet to play their first game in the NCAA Tournament, but they have already heard from plenty of analysts tell them how great they are. “I don’t think it helps us,” said Jans. “It doesn’t score any points for us. It will have no bearing on the outcome of the game Friday.”
The Aggies are a 12 seed facing a 5 in the Clemson Tigers. The Aggies are definitely a confident group who will head into the tournament with a 28-5 record. They are the WAC regular season and tournament champions. Clemson, out of the ACC, finished 23-9.
The Aggies have wins over Miami and Illinois on their resume. They know something about playing on the big stage.
Coach Jans does not believe the attention his team is getting from those predicting they will go to the sweet sixteen will affect his squad. “This team has been pretty mature all year long,” said Jans. “They’ve handled the settings, the narratives that are in play. I don’t see any reason they won’t handle being an upset pick by the experts across the country.
The Aggies and Tigers have a 8:57 pm mountain time start Friday night. The game will be televised on TRUTV.
