ITHACA, N.Y. (AP)Bella Alarie had 17 points, eight rebounds and five blocks and the No. 21 Princeton women beat Cornell 69-50 on Saturday in the regular-season finale for both teams.
The Tigers (26-1, 14-0) wrapped up their fourth undefeated Ivy League slate in program history and won their 22nd consecutive game, the second-longest active win streak in the country behind top-ranked South Carolina’s 25 straight.
Alarie made a layup to give Princeton the lead for good with four minutes left in the first quarter and the Tigers held Cornell scoreless for nearly eight minutes while scoring 13 consecutive points to make it 32-18 with 90 seconds left in the first half. The Lions trailed by double figures the rest of the way.
Laura Bagwell-Katalinich scored 14 points and Samantha Widmann added 13 for Cornell (10-16, 3-11). Widmann, in her final college game, moved past Mary Browne into 12th on the Big Red’s career scoring list with 1,159 points.
Princeton earned the No. 1 seed in the Ivy League tournament and plays fourth-seeded Yale in the semifinals Friday.
The Tigers went into the game leading the nation in scoring defense at 47.8 points per game and have allowed just 42.8 during their current win streak. Princeton has given up more than 55 points just twice this season – in a 78-76 win at Seton Hall on Nov. 15 and 77-75 loss at Iowa on Nov. 20.
