Yvonne Sanchez is getting back into the women’s college basketball game. Sanchez was offered and accepted a job to be an assistant for the University of Michigan women’s basketball team. Sanchez told KRQE Sports that she was excited about the job and happy to work with such a good staff.
Sanchez will be working for Michigan head coach Kim Barnes Arico. In five seasons as head coach at New Mexico, Sanchez led the women’s program to 77 victories and 81 losses before being relieved of her duties in 2016.
Sanchez later worked as an assistant for the Eldorado High School boys basketball team for her brother and Head Coach Roy Sanchez. About a month ago, Sanchez said she would retire. She joked with KRQE Sports Monday that the one month was the shortest retirement ever. Sanchez emphasized that recruiting will be front and center as she starts her new job at Michigan.
