For the second consecutive year University of New Mexico running back Tyrone Owens has been named to the Earl Campbell/Tyler Rose preseason watch list. The award honors the best offensive player in the nation with Texas ties. Owens led the Lobos in rushing with 770 yards last season.
The season before that, his redshirt sophomore season, Owens rushed for 1,084 yards. Owens is one of four Mountain West players on the list. The watch list will be narrowed to 16 semifinalists in November and five finalists in December.
A winner is expected to be announced at the Earl Campbell/Tyler Rose Award Banquet, Jan. 9. In other Lobo football news the Mountain West announced Wednesday that AT&T Sportsnet will broadcast nine of their games. The Lobos are playing in three of those games.
The Lobos game at UNLV, Oct. 6, at Colorado State, Oct. 13 and versus Wyoming Nov. 24 will all be broadcast on AT&T Sportsnet. The Lobos have 10 of their 12 games scheduled for broadcast for television or the internet this season.
