St. Pius X High School had 16 kids sign their national letters of intent on Wednesday in their gymnasium. They have been having a big signing day event like this for over five years, and the buzz around it has gotten stronger every year.
“They have done a lot. They have shown us the past few years with these signing events, and as a freshman, I saw it and wanted to be a part of it,” said Grant Smith, NMSU Baseball signee.
“It’s cool to see the school come together and just celebrate everyone that was able to sign, and just be together as a community,” said Isabelle Pilon, New Mexico Highlands Soccer signee.
Over the past seven years, St. Pius has seen 100 students sign national letters of intent. It’s a big deal for everyone involved.
“We see these kids come in as freshman, you watch them grow up and then they are off…and it’s tough to say goodbye,” said St. Pius X Athletic Director James Cook.
