Signing day for New Mexico high schools is a busy one

From Rio Rancho to Albuquerque, high school student-athletes signed letters of intent Wednesday.

The student-athletes are going all over the country, but no one is going further than Rio Rancho soccer player Payton Sandoval. He is going to Wales to play for Cardiff Metropolitan University.

“It’s going to be fun to go away, but I feel like I will miss it a lot. I will miss home,” said Sandoval. The Academy that produced big baseball names like Bregman, Swihart, and Garver had another class of ten players sign to various schools.

St. Pius shortstop Grant Smith is staying in state with the New Mexico State Aggies.

“I just felt at home when I went down there,” said Smith. “All they did for me and the appreciation that they showed towards me made me want to stay.”
