Reports: Steve Alford to be named Nevada new head basketball coach

Steve Alford is returning to the Mountain West where he had plenty of success as a coach. Nevada Sportsnet is reporting that Alford will be the next coach of the Nevada Wolfpack men’s basketball team. An announcement is expected Thursday.

 Alford most recently coached at UCLA from 2013 until December of 2018, when he was relieved of his duties during the season. At New Mexico, Alford won six Mountain West Championships, four regular season and two tournament titles.

Alford took the Lobos to the NCAA Tournament three times, never advancing past the round of 32. He compiled a 155-52 record. Alford was at New Mexico from 2007 until leaving for UCLA in 2013. Alford replaces Eric Musselman who is now the head coach at Arkansas.
