Paul Weir makes sure his Lobo basketball team moves on from loss to rival

Local Sports

Lobo men’s basketball coach Paul Weir said Tuesday that he noticed a trend with his teams. He said they lose at least one game early, within the first four games of a season.

The Lobos lost an emotionally charged game against rival New Mexico State over the weekend.

Weir wants his team to move on from that loss and embrace the next game which happens to be against the UTEP Miners Saturday. Last season, the Lobos lost an emotional game to the Aggies. The loss eventually lingered and did not help them in another defeat against Tennessee Tech.

Weir wants to avoid a repeat of last season.

“You know my job is to make sure we grow from that and make sure that we have our best effort against UTEP here on Saturday and not duplicate what happened last season in the Tennessee Tech game,” said Weir.

The 2-1 Lobos and UTEP Miners have a 5:30 p.m. start time at Dreamstyle Arena Saturday.
