Paul Weir and his Lobos look for a Mountain West win in San Diego

The Lobos were looking for a win in San Diego Tuesday night, but what they got was another blowout loss. The San Diego State Aztecs buried the Lobos 97-77. The Lobos were dominated in the paint as the Aztecs continued to find the soft spot in a zone that does not appear to be effective.

The Aztecs outscored the Lobos 50-16 in the paint. The Aztecs also beat the Lobos on the glass 38-25. Taking care of the basketball has been an issue for the Lobos this season. They added another 17 miscues to their turnover total Tuesday night.

The Aztecs were good with assists in the game with 30 to that of 17 for the Lobos. Anthony Mathis led the Lobos in scoring with 21 points. Mathis led a charge during the first half that helped the Lobos erase an 11 point deficit when he went 4 of 4 from three point range. He had 13 first half points. Three other Lobos scored in double figures.

Vance Jackson finished the game with 16 points. Carlton Bragg chipped in 12 points while Dane Kuiper finished with 11 points. The Aztecs had five players in double figures. Jalen McDaniels led the way with a game high 24 points.

Devin Watson hit big shots and finished with 21 points. With the loss the Lobos dropped to 8-9 overall and 2-3 in league play. The Aztecs improved to 10-7 overall and 2-2 in the Mountain West. The Lobos return home to host Wyoming Saturday. The Aztecs are at Fresno State next Tuesday.
