After a spectacular run through the RMAC Basketball Tournament, the New Mexico Highlands Men’s Basketball Team is now headed to the South Central Regional as an 8 seed in the DII NCAA Tournament.
The Cowboys beat Black Hills State on Saturday Night to win their first ever RMAC Tournament Title, 79-66. Not only does this RMAC Title mark the first ever for the Cowboys, but they are also the first to ever do it as a 7 seed in the conference tournament.
“I mean I think the guys played so well this week. I mean, you look at the three games we played, I think we led for about 107 of 120 minutes. I think the guys just played with a lot of confidence and came out and performed the best they have all year”, said NMHU Head Basketball Coach Craig Snow.
“We returned a lot of guys from a year ago that got a lot of valuable experience and we added two, super dynamic, transfers, but really it was the buy-in of the team and the leadership and their comradery that really took us to the next level. to win an RMAC championship for the first time ever, I think is pretty special and I am just really happy with what we have done in our short time here and where we can go moving forward”, said Coach Snow.
NMHU will play top-seeded West Texas A&M in the first round of the DII NCAA Tournament. The date and time of that game are still TBA, but stick with KRQE sports for all of the latest on the NMHU Cowboys.
