It was a game that ended with the New Mexico State Aggies just one basket away from tying it with the 2nd ranked team in the country. #2 Kansas defeated NMSU 63-60 on Saturday night. It was a nationally televised game that showcased how hard this NMSU team can play.
The Aggies led by 2 and the break and then by as much as 7 points in the 2nd half. State led for most of the 2nd half, but with about four minutes left to play, Kansas would regain a lead.
The Jayhawks would go up, but NMSU did not make it easy after that, as it would be a back and forth battle with the Aggies having one last shot at extending the game. With under 10 seconds to play Jojo Zamora, who led the team in scoring with 15 points, got the ball and had a decent look at a 3 to tie it up at 63, but it would go off the rim and Kansas would avoid the upset.
63-60 was the final, as Jojo Zamora led the Aggies in scoring with 15, Ivan Aurrecoechea had 14 points, and Johnny McCants had 12 points.
NMSU falls to 7-2 on the year and will now move on to host Northern Colorado on Monday, December 17 at 7 p.m.
