The New Mexico United soccer team has added an assistant coach with deep New Mexico ties. Mike Graczyk spent last season as an associate head coach for the University of New Mexico men’s soccer team. That program was part of budget cuts, but could be brought back.
Graczyk said he did not leave UNM because of the cut. He said he simply could not pass up a good opportunity. “This is an incredible opportunity and to be a part of something starting that the city is so excited about,” said Graczyk.
“I know the soccer community and they have been desiring this for such a long time. So, to be able to be considered for this was such a great opportunity”. Graczyk will be Director of Goolkeeping. He was a star goaltender at New Mexico and has the record for shutouts at 30. Graczyk also has the single season shutout record with 13. The home portion of the season starts March 9 for the United.
