The UNM Lobos attempt at avenging an earlier loss to UNLV fell flat Tuesday night. The Rebels rolled a cold-shooting New Mexico team 74-58 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
The Lobos started fast with a 9-2 advantage. The Rebels clawed their way back and found their groove before halftime, where they led by a dozen. That jumped to 19 points in the second half.
The Lobos struggled from the three-point line and it was the difference in the game. The Lobos were 6 of 23 from long range while the Rebels were 14 of 25, shooting over 56 percent from deep. Nick Blair was a thorn in the Lobos side hitting on four of his three-point attempts and scoring 26 points.
Vance Jackson led the Lobos attack with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Carlton Bragg turned in a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds. Keith McGee was the only other Lobo in double figures with 12 points. The Rebels finished a regular season sweep of the Lobos with the win and improved to 11-7 overall and 5-1 in the Mountain West.
The Lobos are 9-10 overall and 3-4 in the Mountain West.
The Lobos have lost four of their last five games. They will host Utah State Saturday.
