Lobo men’s basketball was looking to snap back from a three-game losing streak when hosting the Wyoming Cowboys and they achieved it Saturday night winning 83-53. It was a strong performance, both offensively and defensively for the Lobos on Saturday, as they now improve their record to 9-9 overall and 3-3 in MW Conference play.
The Lobos led by 17 at the break, and had a strong 1st half performance from Dane Kuiper who had 10 points and Carlton Bragg, who also had 10 points at the half. Overall, UNM had 6 scorers finish in the double figures on Saturday: Dane Kuiper 10, Makuach Maluach 11, Vance Jackson 13, Anthony Mathis 12, Carlton Bragg 16, and Keith McGee 14.
Vance Jackson finished with a double-double with 13 points and 1o rebounds, and overall this Lobo team would dominate the boards against the Cowboys. UNM finished with 43 rebounds which trumped Wyomings 26.
This team looked more comfortable as they switched from a zone to a man defense. They had over 40 deflections, which is a big indicator of effort for Head Coach Paul Weir. UNM will now move on to look for revenge against UNLV, as they play the Rebels at their place on Tuesday at 8pm.
