The University of New Mexico women’s golf team is set to open their 2018 season, as they host the 40th annual Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational Sept. 10-11.
The 16-team field will include Northwestern, which finished 4th in the 2018 NCAA Women’s Golf Championship last year, as well as Kent State which was 7th.
The other teams to competing this year are UC Davis, Central Arkansas, Colorado, Fresno State, Idaho, Iowa, Iowa State, UNLV, New Mexico State, Pepperdine, San Diego State and Washington.
The Lobos return five players from last year and also add two solid freshmen to their roster.
Head Coach Jill Trujillo is excited with the team she has coming into 2018.
“We are deep this year, all 7 can make up our lineup of 5. So, our first event of the season, our home event, we are ready to take it pretty low this week. We have some great teams out there that we can beat. So, it should be fun to see how it all plays out”, said Trujillo.
Both Monday and Tuesday will have a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start time at UNM’s Championship Golf Course.
