Jill Trujillo’s like what she is sees from her Lobo women’s golf team. The host of the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational played well enough to finish in a tie for second in the first day of play.
The 16 teams played 36 holes on the first day. Kent State leads on the team leader board after posting a 7 under par score. The Lobos and Northwestern are tied for second after each team posted a 3 under par total. “We have a lot of good teams out here and I think when you can see that you are just as competitive, if not more competitive, than the teams you are playing with then the sky is the limit,” said Trujillo.
San Diego State is the only other team with a combined score under par as they finished at one under par overall. On the individual scoreboard Lobo senior Darian Zachek has the lead at 7 under par. Her score is two strokes better than the pack. Former Rio Rancho star Dominique Galloway, playing for New Mexico State is tied for 38th. As a team the Aggies hold the final slot at 16th.
