Jeff Nelson is out after 12 years as the volleyball coach of the University of New Mexico. UNM Athletic Director Eddie Nunez announced Wednesday that he would not be renewing Nelson’s contract, which expires in January.
Nunez said in a news release that his decision not to renew was for the best interest of the program. Assistant Coach Pauline Manser will remain with the program through the transition and also serve as interim coach for the upcoming beach volleyball season.
The Lobos had top three finishes three times in Nelson’s first four seasons, but the team finished as high as third just once in his final eight seasons. Nelson compiled a record of 219 wins and 148 losses.
