The UNM Board of Regents have scheduled a special session to meet on Thursday July 19th. The growing suspicion for Lobo Men’s Soccer is that things don’t look good. “I think people are just like.. there’s no way you’re not going to have soccer here… it’s a big part of all these kids lives” , said UNM Head Soccer Coach Jeremy Fishbein.
“My feelings are, I mean I’m just… absolutely just horrified by the idea that there wouldn’t be a University of New Mexico men’s soccer program”, said Billy Thiebaut, who is a former UNM Soccer player and is now the head coach for Volcano Vista boys Varsity soccer.
Coach Fishbein has not just been supportive of his team, but of all athletic programs at UNM, as he believes that not one sport should be cut.”I think sometimes were get fixated budgetarily but what we also need to look at as a public institution, we need to invest in our state. I think investing in some of our guys has been the best investment you can ever make”, said Jeremy Fishbein.
