The Lobos are now 1-1 on the season after losing to #4 Wisconsin on Saturday 45-14. As was expected, the Badgers run game was dominate in this game with the Lobos, as Wisconsin racked up 417 yards on the ground and overall they picked up 568 total yards. The Lobos finished with 211 total yards in this game with 134 coming from the pass.
This is the teams first loss, but it was also a surprising start for the Lobos. They came into this game looking fierce and keeping to the game plan. UNM opened up this game with an 18 play, 7:38 drive, that finished in a TD. The Lobos ate up the clock and they would take the early lead, and after that their defense would step up, holding Wisconsin to a field goal in their opening drive.
UNM lead 7-3 heading into the 2nd quarter, but in their 1st series the offense would be shook. Starting QB Tevaka Tuioti would take a big hit and eventually be pulled from the game. He would not return and reports are saying that he could be questionable for next week against NMSU, after injuring his head.
Sherrion Jones would take over under center for the Lobos, and from there the offense would not flow like they did in the 1st quarter. The Lobos fall to 1-1 on the season as they now look ahead to the Rio Grande Rivalry game in Las Cruces next. They will play 0-3 NMSU next on Saturday at 6 p.m.
