After a midweek out of conference victory over Arizona the Lobo baseball team returned home Friday to open Mountain West play. The home team did not disappoint as they turned away the San Jose State Spartans with a 14-2 victory in the first of three games.
The Lobos got a solid pitching performance from Justin Slaten who struck out 9 batters in six strong innings and gave up one earned run. Hayden Schilling drove in five runs while Reese O’Farrell added another three runs in the lopsided win.
With the victory the Lobos improved to 7-3 on the season and 1-0 in the Mountain West. The Lobos and San Jose State will play the second of three games Saturday at Santa Ana Star Field at 2 p.m.
