Jones will quarterback the Lobos at NMSU

Local Sports

Sherion Jones will get his first start as a UNM Lobos quarterback against rival New Mexico State. Starter Tevaka Tuioti was knocked out of the Lobos loss at Wisconsin this past Saturday and is currently in concussion protocol. Second string quarterback

Coltin Gerhart is still suffering from a foot injury that will keep him on the shelf another week. That left Jones, the Lobos third string quarterback, as the next man up. Jones transferred to New Mexico from Mt. Sac and is in his first year with the team. He is a third string quarterback with a lot of experience. Jones actually started his career as an SEC quarterback with Tennessee.

The well traveled Jones will get a chance to show what he is capable of in Las Cruces Saturday. Trae Hall will play backup to Jones. Bryson Carroll, who switched to running back, will be the third string quarterback in case the Lobos need him at the position. The Lobos and Aggies have a 6 p.m. start time Saturday. The game will be broadcast on Aggievision.
