The streak is dead. A red hot Lobo women’s basketball team finally beat UNLV Wednesday night 80-77 in overtime. The Rebels won the previous six meetings between the two teams. The win improved the Lobos record to 16-2 overall and 6-1 in the Mountain West.
The Rebels are 5-12 overall and 3-3 in league play. Jaisa Nunn led the Lobo attack with a double-double of 26 points and 12 rebounds. Nunn now has 1,000 career points and 800 rebounds. She is the third Lobo player with those numbers in the history of the program.
It was also a big night for Jayla Everett. Everett scored 23 points. Point guard Aisia Robertson scored 14 points and delivered 9 assists. The Lobos led 31-27 at the break and improved the lead to as much as 14 points before UNLV came roaring back.
Katie Powell banked in a three to tie the game at the end of regulation at 69 points each. Powell led the Rebels in scoring with 22 points and also pulled down 11 rebounds. Jaisa Nunn put the Lobos up with the first two points in overtime as the team was able to close out for the win.
The Lobos are at Utah State Saturday. The game has a 2 p.m. start.
