The University of New Mexico announced Tuesday that former athletics director Gary Ness died late last week. His cause of death was not disclosed. Ness was the athletics director at UNM from 1988 to 1992.
Listed among his accomplishments from the school were increased staffing in several areas and sports, bringing the Lobo Club under departmental administration, and lobbying for tuition remission for scholarships.
Ness was a two-sport athlete for the Lobos in the 1960s. He excelled in football and baseball. Ness was inducted into the UNM Hall of Honor in 1996. Ness was 76 years old. Funeral services are still pending.
