Former Lobo assistant and Hobbs Eagle now interim coach at LSU

Local Sports

Former UNM assistant and Hobbs Eagles basketball star Tony Benford is a head coach again.

LSU named Benford interim coach after suspending Will Wade indefinitely. This comes amid reports of the FBI wiretapping conversations between Wade and recruiting broker Christian Dawkins about a current player.

Benford was head coach at North Texas from 2012 to 2017. Benford has been at LSU for two seasons and will take over a team that is currently ranked 10th in the nation.
