ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – On Monday, New Mexico United made a big announcement, marking a new era for the team. The professional soccer team posted a mysterious photo on their social media over the weekend, leading up to the reveal.
Fans chimed in under the comment sections with their ideas of what it could be. Some say it could be the return of a popular player, while one fan joked it was a mascot.
Around 9 a.m., the team released a statement from team owner and president, Peter Trevisani announcing a partnership with brand PUMA.
“PUMA not only gets our mission, but they are also now a catalyst in its fulfillment. Our players, technical team and staff are honored to represent PUMA,” said Trevisani in a statement.
This is the first time PUMA has teamed up with a professional sports team in the United States. Players will start training in PUMA gear this week and fans can look forward to having new 2020 kits. The kits will be revealed at the team’s annual Black and Yellow Bash on Feb. 29.
