Donovan Porterie shines in the Duke City Gladiators season opener

Local Sports

Former Lobo quarterback, Donovan Porterie played with the Duke City Gladiators two seasons ago. Porterie left the team last season to play in Kansas City, but is now back and ready to win with the Gladiators.

I am going to be a polished DP, mature, a lot of the same attributes, but a lot more mentally there. You know, I am not 19 or 20 anymore, and I have been around the game a while. So, I am definitely more polished and a guy that wants to win, said Donovan Porterie.

Porterie showcased his skills in the Gladiators season-opening victory over Wichita on Saturday night, as he threw 7 touchdown passes in the 75-24 win. He has a lot of good memories about New Mexico and is excited to make some more. To be back and be able to perform for those same fans, you know, nine years later you know. It gives me a warm feeling, but I have always considered Albuquerque a second home as soon as I got out of my first college camp with Rocky Long, said Porterie.

The Gladiators will be back at home on Saturday as they host the Amarillo Venom at 6:05 p.m.
