Blake Swihart has returned to his home state as a World Series Champion. The Boston Red Sox utility player says winning it all was something he dreamed about as a child. Swihart had limited minutes with the Red Sox this season, but was counted on to fill gaps at nearly every position on the field. “You know I played every position but center field and shortstop,” said Swihart.
“My dad actually had me do that when he was my coach when I was younger, I played everywhere. In ABA I played everywhere. To be able to go to left field, if something happens I got to go to first base, if something happens I got to go catch, it’s special.” Swihart’s versatility may be one of the reasons his name has been mentioned in so many trade rumors this past season.
A guy who can play many positions on the field would be valuable to any team. “If I’m wanted by other teams it’s a good thing,” said Swihart. “Hopefully I have a job for a long time. Like I said, my job right now is to be with the Boston Red Sox. My focus is there. Whatever happens happens.”
