Anthony Mathis is getting another year of basketball at the University of New Mexico.
“This is the best news I have ever heard,” said Mathis, in a UNM news release. “To be able to come back and truly have a full career here is absolutely a dream come true.”
Mathis was granted a season of competition waiver by the NCAA on Wednesday. He applied for the waiver at because of a lack of playing time early in his Lobo career.
Lobos Head Coach Paul Weir is excited about getting his senior guard and leading scorer back.
“There hasn’t been a more committed member of our team the past two years, and to have him for one more is an absolutely huge boost for our program,” said Weir.
Mathis averaged 14.4 points per game for the Lobos last season. Mathis also broke the record for three pointers in a single season with over 100.
