Albuquerque Bullsnakes make Mike Huston their first coach

Local Sports

The Albuquerque Bullsnakes have named Mike Huston its first head coach. Bullsnakes owner Nick Lourenco made the move late Wednesday night. The Bullsnakes is an expansion team of the semi-pro American Basketball Association. The team will play its first season starting in November 2019.

Huston’s last head coaching job was with the Eldorado Eagles girls basketball team. He retired after a dozen years as head coach. Huston has 33 years of coaching boys and girls basketball in New Mexico and is excited about his new opportunity.

“It’s an opportunity for me to get back in the game coaching wise,” said Huston. “It’s a chance to work with young men and these are guys that have finished their eligibility more than likely. It’s an opportunity to showcase them and perhaps get them some contracts overseas.”

The Bullsnakes hope to make a footprint in the community by stocking the team with local players. Tryouts are set for Nov. 17 and Nov. 24. Players hoping to get involved with the team can get more information at
