Ray Birmingham and his Lobo baseball team beat Grand Canyon 10-4 Wednesday to earn a split in a two-game series that started Tuesday night in Arizona. Robby Campillo hit a two-run shot in the top of a five-run second inning to get the Lobos started.
The Lobos scored two more runs in the fourth inning, followed by one in the fifth and two in the sixth. Lobo pitcher Robert Gasser picked up his second win against two losses with the victory. The win improved the Lobos record to 15-24-1.
The Lobos will resume Mountain West Conference play Friday when they meet San Jose State on the road. The Spartans are the last place team in the conference but have won their last two games.
The defending Mountain West champion Lobos are hoping to make up enough ground to get fourth place or better for a berth into the conference tournament. With nine league games to go the Lobos still have a shot.
