Lobo Baseball is excited about the future with their new clubhouse

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A $2.2 Million Dollar facility is being built at University of New Mexico.

“This is us, this is people of New Mexico doing something special for New Mexico, and that’s how I look at this and the people of New Mexico have put their stamp here,” said Lobo Baseball Coach Ray Birmingham on the new clubhouse that is under construction at Santa Ana Star Field.

The over 6,000 square foot building is filling a 116 year void for this baseball team, as the program has gone without a clubhouse for that long.

“I wanted a big space where the kids have room to roam and I can stand in the middle and cheer them on and congratulate them or chew their rear end, one or the other,” said Birmingham.

It is a state of the art facility that is mainly been funded by local businesses. It is called the R.D & Joan Dale Hubbard Baseball Clubhouse, after a generous donation from the Hubbard’s, but the Dennis’s and the Grady’s also chipped in to give this team a fitting place to hang their cleats.

“We will now have a facility that we can be proud of and we can recruit to and it’s something that is necessary to get to Omaha. This is a foyer and this is for all the championship trophies,” said Birmingham.

The clubhouse is set to be done on November 1, ready for the start of the Lobo baseball season which starts on February 17th.
