For a second consecutive year the Hope Christian Baseball team earned the top seed in the Class 4A State Baseball Tournament. The Huskies were heavy favorites last season, but lost to district rival Portales in the State Championship game. The 8-4 loss to the Rams has not left the mind of this year’s team, and it has played motivator for the Huskies.
“It’s been just a constant reminder to us all season, that we almost had it last year, but didn’t quite get there,” said Senior outfielder, Coy Karler.
“We want nothing more than to get revenge and get that title under our belt, and just know that we were able to fight back what we didn’t get last year,” said Senior 1st baseman, Braden Rue.
The Huskies went 20-6 overall in this years regular season. They have a fire under them and they now know what to expect, so that should help this team heading into the State Tournament.
“For a lot of guys, last year was the first time going and this year we are going to take that experience and we are going to apply it to our state tournament run this year, and hopefully we can finish it,” said Hope Christian Coach, Glen Copeland.
The Huskies will start this year’s tournament on Friday at Sandia High School. Hope will take on 16 seed Navajo Prep at 4 p.m.
