It’s not often that Holly Holm faces an opponent that is taller than her. That is what she will get when she meets six foot Megan Anderson at UFC 225 in Chicago June 9.
“There’s still just a game plan per person,” said Holm. “It’s not necessarily if you’re tall you fight this way. If you’re short you fight this way. It’s the game plan for the actual fighter and style, but there are things that factor into the fact that she is taller, you know. We need to get past that reach and stuff like that.”
Holm hasn’t fought since taking UFC Featherweight Champ Cris Cyborg the distance in a tough battle in Las Vegas last December. It is that battle that has some wondering if Holm and Anderson would be in line for a fight against Cyborg next.
“There’s a lot that can happen in a few months time, depending on how a fight goes,” said Holm. “Look at how many times the belt has changed here and there. So, it’s really hard to look too far ahead and I don’t really want to. I just want to think about this fight and that’s it.”
The fight against Anderson will be the third for Holm in the featherweight division. Holm, a former UFC bantamweight champion, is listed as the number one bantamweight contender on the UFC website. She is not ready to commit to only one division.
“You know I can compete at either weight,” said Holm. “I want to take every opportunity that comes my way. This is what came at 145. I feel good at it. I will just keep going forward. I don’t want to get to stuck on one weight class that I don’t take an opportunity of the other.”
