Pueblo governors hosted a Zambian tribal king Thursday to talk about culture.
Zambia has 19 native tribes similar to the 19 Indian pueblos in New Mexico.
Thursday, the King of Zambia’s Bemba Tribe met with pueblo governors to learn what programs are keeping native language alive in New Mexico, discuss the progressive role of pueblo women, and share what programs his own tribe are using to improve education.
“For our children who don’t have financial resources to finish their education, we’ve copied them into our own tradition as a school,” King Chitimukulu Sosala Kanyta Manga II said.
The king is also working with governors to create an exchange program between Zambia and universities in New Mexico.
To thank the king for his visit, governors gifted him with a ceremonial drum and buffalo robe.
