Women of the World Poetry Slam makes 8th annual return

News

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The World of Women Poetry Slam (WOWPS) is a four-day poetry festival, in which 72 of the best female poets in the world compete against each other over two nights of preliminary competitions (referred to as “bouts”). The poets with the top 12 scores from those days move on to finals, where one poet is crowned the champion.

The 2015 WOWPS will take place in downtown Albuquerque from March 18-21. It will happen in various locations, so you’ll want to check their website for specifics on when and where.

The event will include a Last Chance Slam on Wednesday, March 18, followed by two days of preliminary competition. The even will end with the Women of the World Championship on Saturday, March 21, at the Historic KiMo Theater, where the top 12 poets from the competition will be showcased. In addition to the competition, each day the festival features poetry workshops, themed open mics, special nighttime events and parties. All events are open to the public and free with a $50 festival pass. Some daytime events will also be free to the general public, with or without a pass.
