OTIS, N.M. (KRQE) – The woman accused of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from a small New Mexico water utility has been indicted.
According to a state audit released last year, Lori Whitaker stole at least $800,000 from the Otis Water Association from 2015 to 2017.
It claims she was withdrawing money from the utilities credit card at casinos in Ruidoso, Albuquerque, even Oklahoma.
Now almost a year later, Whitaker is being charged with 75 counts of embezzlement. She is due in court next week.
