Wildfire northeast of Ruidoso contained at 38 acres

RUIDOSO, N.M. (KRQE) - It was an unusual sight: a wildfire in the middle of winter.

The fire started Monday afternoon on the northeast side of Ruidoso in the Lincoln National Forest.

Wind gusts of up to 45 mph caused it to spread to 38 acres, and move towards a subdivision.

A bulldozer line ultimately prevented the fire from jumping.

As of Monday night, crews have the fire contained.

They are not sure how it started.
