Westgate Little League Softball headed to Waco, Texas

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE)- For the first time in Westgate Little League history, as well as District 9 in Albuquerque, the major’s softball all-star team is headed to Texas for regionals.

“It’s pretty amazing,” said 1st baseman Marissa Sierra. “It’s been my dream since I was four years old to make it to the World Series and we are like one step closer to that.”

This team is composed of 11 and 12 year old’s and had a rough road to this year’s state title. They came up through the loser’s bracket and had to beat Deming twice to claim this year’s State Championship Title.

They now head to Waco, Texas for this year’s Southwestern Division Regional. They are one of six teams that are looking to move on to this year’s World Series.

“They have sacrificed a lot,” said Head Coach Marcos Morales. “You know it’s the summer and everyone is out in pools and having fun, and these girls are practicing every single year.”

They leave on Tuesday for Texas and will play in a double header on Wednesday. The best two teams will move on to the championship game which is on the following Tuesday.

This team set up a GoFundMe to raise funds for travel, food and lodging.
