Well-known eastern New Mexico restaurant closes after 40 years

FORT SUMNER, N.M (KRQE) – A restaurant that has been a staple in eastern New Mexico has closed after 40 years.

Fred’s Restaurant in Fort Sumner closed its doors for good over the weekend.

Owners Fred, Ron and Marie Gauna say the business has been difficult the past few years.

Fred’s restaurant was best known for its New Mexican food and chicken fried steak.
