The video is a scary reminder that you never know who’s driving next to you on the Interstate at night.
KRQE News 13 requested police video from three different DWI stops on I-25 in the Albuquerque area, and the suspected drunk drivers are often easy to spot.
A driver flying down I-25 on three tires, sparks flying from a rim on a Friday night two weeks ago. That was an easy catch for a State Police officer, camped out along the interstate.
As 19-year old, Anthony Martinez, looked for his license, he handed the officer an empty bottle of Jack Daniels.
When the teen pulled over in the sparking truck, he got out and walked right onto the interstate, before the officer hurried to get him back inside.
That same night, a woman cutting across I-25 in Albuquerque, to get to an exit at the last second, left a cloud of dust in her wake.
When the officer pulled Yvonne Leyba over, the 37-year old mom gave officers a reason for her dangerous maneuver.
Leyba: “I was coming from work. I didn’t realize the construction that was going on.”
Another Friday night, another DWI on I-25.
This guy’s excuse tops them all when he was seen weaving in and out of traffic at 100 mph, at 8:30 at night, near the Montgomery exit.
Julian Flores-Escarcega told police he was in a rush to get to a reservation at Outback Steakhouse.
All three drivers were arrested and booked for DWI.
No one was hurt in any of those DWI cases.
