Video: Albuquerque man punches another man for committing a crime

The video is striking: An Albuquerque man getting out of his car, crossing Central on foot, and then punching a guy at a bus stop. On his Facebook page, he explains why he felt the need to take the law into his own hands.

It all started at a bus bench on Central at Wyoming earlier this week.

An Albuquerque man posted a video on Facebook with a caption saying he’s tired of people doing wrong, and he wanted to teach the guy at the bus stop a lesson.

In the video, the poster gets out of his car on Wyoming, and crosses the street after he says he and his wife drove by a man at the bus stop, who had his penis out.

The driver punched him, and then had a few words for him before strolling back to his car, as his wife recorded the whole thing.

A spokesperson with the Albuquerque Police Department says this type of behavior should not be applauded.

“I completely understand someone being frustrated seeing a crime being committed, and you want to do something like that perhaps, but you really shouldn’t,” said Gilbert Gallegos.

Even though the driver posted the video to social media, police say they still can’t open an investigation without one key piece.

“Even if there was an assault that followed, we would still need a victim to come forward and file a complaint,” said Gallegos.

So far, people in Albuquerque agree with police and say the man took it way too far.

“He should’ve just called the police and moved on with his day because violence is never the answer. I truly believe that,” said Vlad Fincher.

“There’s certainly a whole host of non-violent ways that that could’ve been more easily resolved,” said Andrew Dreelin.

“Just because someone else is breaking the law doesn’t mean you can be a vigilante. I mean we live in a society with rules,” said Jenna McCullough.

In the post, the driver says he has daughters and says he won’t tolerate this kind of behavior in his city. He also says is if he called the police, the guy probably would’ve been gone by the time they got there.

KRQE News 13 reached out to the man who posted the video, he did not get back to us.
