ALBQUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The USA Masters Track and Field Masters Championships are being held in Albuquerque this weekend, Friday through Sunday.
There are five Olympians, more than 30 world champions, and over 40 athletes from New Mexico.
The event is free and the schedule runs all day: 8 a.m. start every day, and ends 4:30 p.m. Friday, 5:00 p.m. Saturday, and 2:15 p.m. Sunday.
One of the runners competing this year is 91-year-old Dixon Hemphill. He has been running for over 40 years and just started competing in the last few years.
“It’s the competition, it’s the comradeship, and I want to stay healthy. The guy I ran against is 98 and he says he is looking forward to being 100. I have the same ambition,” said Hemphill.
Dixon is a very competitive guy and will race in two more events before the Championships are over.
