US Energy Secretary Rick Perry visits WIPP

CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) – Encouraging words about WIPP from New Energy Secretary Rick Perry.

Perry visited the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant this week. He told employees that their jobs are one of the most important in the country.

WIPP was shut down for nearly three years after a radiation leak and truck fire. It only recently reopened.

Perry said he is convinced WIPP is a safe solution for the nation’s nuclear waste, suggesting there are no plans to cut funding.

Perry stressed that President Trump is committed to the department of Energy’s Mission and called for its modernization.
